Sean Stalfort

Mr. Stalfort graduated from Brown University (B.A., Business Economics, Political Science, 1991). Between 1991 and 1993, Mr. Stalfort worked as an investment banking analyst in Fixed Income Sales & Trading Group at CS First Boston in New York. While at CSFB, Mr. Stalfort managed risk-related exposures associated with the firm’s $50 billion in repurchase, mortgage backed forward transactions and senior debt facilities.

In 1993, Mr. Stalfort joined Greenwich Capital Markets as a Senior Underwriter in the Commercial Finance Group.

From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Stalfort was a Vice President in Greenwich Capital’s Asset-Backed and Real Estate Finance Group where he participated in various ABS, CMBS and merchant banking transactions totaling over $3 billion. Deals included commercial real estate, multifamily, business loans, home equity, Harley Davidson leases, marinas, and subprime auto. Mr. Stalfort also worked on the trading desk to price, sell and market B piece and equity tranches of these securitizations.

From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Stalfort served as Senior Vice President and founding principal in Enterprise Mortgage, a specialty finance company providing senior real estate, asset-based and cash flow debt financing to small and mid-sized companies and properties. Mr. Stalfort participated in the funding of over $1.4 billion in more than 225 transactions. The firm generated $29 and $31 million in net income in its 2nd and 3rd years of operation, on an initial equity investment of $5 million (sold 10% of company to Citigroup for $20 million two years after inception).

Mr. Stalfort was a Managing Director and founding partner in Capital Solutions Group, Ravelin Capital and Benevolent Capital, private equity investment companies providing capital to small businesses within niche value-add industries. Benevolent Capital has invested in seven companies including: food, environmental and pharmaceutical method development testing laboratories in Florida, PA and NY, real estate company in Western Australia, backpack manufacturer in NY/El Salvador, self-service kiosk and industrial workstation company in Atlanta and DNA-modifying enzyme company in Boston.

Mr. Stalfort is a founding partner in Octagon Partners, a national real estate investment firm focused on providing capital and award-winning real estate development services in select markets throughout the United States. Octagon has invested or exited seven portfolio properties totaling over 1,300 acres, 1,250 residential units and 2 million sq ft of retail sq ft.

Mr. Stalfort is also a founding member of Virginia Tax Credit Partners, a vehicle that links investors with developers seeking to sell Virginia State Historic Tax Credits. In 2009, Virginia Tax Credit Partners purchased just over $6 million of state historic credits.
